Erithalion is a vibrant Wild Specialty Beer that showcases a lush, concentrated berry profile within a robust 8% ABV framework. The sensory journey begins with an explosion of jammy blueberry and blackberry, bolstered by the unique berry-like nuances of Comet hops. A sturdy grain foundation of GW 2 Row, Wheat Malt, and Flaked Oats provides a soft, bready cushion for the sharp, refreshing acidity produced by Lactobacillus. The addition of Lactose imparts a silky, rounded texture that tempers the juice-like tartness of the strawberry and blackberry puree. The result is a complex, medium-full-bodied sour ale where juicy fruit intensity meets a creamy, well-integrated finish.
Appearance. Deep magenta to purple-ruby hue; hazy to opaque clarity due to heavy fruit puree. Moderate pink-tinted head with fair retention and light lacing.
Aroma. High intensity of fresh forest fruits, specifically crushed blackberries and sweet strawberries. Subtle grapefruit and wild berry hop character from Comet. Clean lactic sourness with a faint, creamy sweetness and a soft, bready malt backbone.
Taste. A sharp, juicy initial impression of tart berries and lactic acidity. Malt flavors of bready wheat and grainy GW 2 Row are present but supportive. Very low hop bitterness, allowing the tangy fruit and residual sweetness from Lactose to dominate. The finish is clean and lingering with a pleasant berry-skin tartness and a smooth, semi-sweet aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a notable creaminess derived from Flaked Oats and Lactose. Moderate carbonation. A smooth, gentle alcohol warmth is present, reflecting the 8% ABV without being harsh. Low astringency.
