Touch Grass is a lush and creamy Double IPA that showcases the vibrant intersection of modern New Zealand and American hop science. Intense aromas of white grape and crushed gooseberry from Nelson Sauvin lead the charge, supported by the familiar tropical punch of Citra. The experimental NZH-101 adds a distinctive layer of funky tropical fruit and stone fruit esters, all unified by Verdant’s expressive house yeast. Its medium-full, velvety body masks the strength with remarkable smoothness, offering a saturated hop experience that balances citrus zest with a soft, grainy malt backbone. The finish is clean yet lingering, punctuated by a refined, pithy bitterness.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange (7–9 SRM). Pours with a thick, persistent off-white head that leaves dense lacing. While the style allows clarity, this modern interpretation presents a characteristic heavy haze.
Aroma. High intensity. Explosive notes of passion fruit, mango, and lime from the Citra hops are complemented by Nelson Sauvin’s signature white wine and gooseberry character. NZH-101 introduces a complex tropical funk. The yeast provides supportive peach and apricot esters over a low, bready malt background.
Taste. Powerful initial impression of tropical fruit salad and citrus. Nelson Sauvin provides a distinct vinous grape flavor, while NZH-101 contributes layers of overripe stone fruit. Bitterness is moderately high but remains soft and integrated, avoiding harshness. The malt is clean and supportive, reminiscent of fresh flour. Finish is medium-dry with a long-lasting fruit-skin and hop resin aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a notably creamy and lush texture. Carbonation is moderate. A smooth, restrained alcohol warmth is present but well-hidden. No detectable astringency.
