VAT'33 Starscaper: Naked Eye

Imperial IPA 8.1 º

This Double IPA presents a vivid sensory display as striking as the Aurora Borealis. It leads with an intense hop profile characterized by bright citrus, resinous pine, and tropical fruit notes. At 8.1% ABV, the strength is apparent but expertly integrated into a clean, neutral grainy malt backbone that avoids the heavy sweetness or syrupy body of a barleywine. The fermentation profile remains neutral and clean, allowing the complex New World hop character to remain the singular focal point. It finishes decidedly dry with a lingering, firm bitterness that invites another sip, while a smooth, restrained alcohol warmth rounds out the experience.

Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper (7-12 SRM) with a moderate-sized, persistent white head that leaves significant lacing. Clarity is good, though a very slight, modern chill haze is acceptable.

Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring layers of grapefruit, mango, and floral notes with a touch of resinous pine. A supportive, neutral to grainy maltiness sits in the background, accompanied by a clean fermentation profile and a hint of smooth alcohol.

Taste. Initial impression is an explosion of citrus and stone fruit hop flavors. The malt character is low and unobtrusive, providing a clean, soft base for the moderately high bitterness. The finish is medium-dry to dry, lacking any heavy sweetness, and concludes with a lingering, clean, hoppy aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and medium-high carbonation that provides a crisp, lively mouthfeel. A restrained, smooth alcohol warmth is present without being harsh or solventy.
