Midnight Velvet Benrinnes is a masterful Imperial Stout that exchanges typical vanilla-forward barrel profiles for the sophisticated, tannic depth of Benrinnes whisky casks. The sensory experience is defined by an opaque, viscous pour that yields intense aromas of dark chocolate and bitter cocoa, interlaced with the non-smoky yet punchy character of Scotch malt. On the palate, it delivers a dense, enveloping sweetness balanced by a distinctively sharp oak tannin and roasted malt bitterness. The Benrinnes barrel influence introduces a complex, spirit-forward aroma without smoke, leaning into earthy malt and leather. Taste. Initial impression is rich and sweet, transitioning quickly to intense dark chocolate and roasted grain. The mid-palate features a unique, sharp tannic bitterness derived from the whisky oak, which provides a dry counterpoint to the sweet malt base.
