This Double IPA captures the essence of the Best Coast with an aggressive hop profile and impressive clarity. The initial sensory impact is dominated by bright citrus and resinous pine, driven by hot-side additions of Simcoe, Citra, and Chinook. A massive dry-hop featuring Citra, Simcoe cryohops, and Mosaic pellets intensifies the tropical fruit and berry-like layers, creating a complex, layered bouquet. Despite its strength, the beer maintains a clean, lean malt profile that allows the hops to remain the undisputed focal point. It concludes with a crisp, dry finish and a lingering, firm bitterness, perfectly balancing its potent yet smooth alcohol warmth.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper (SRM 8-10). Brilliant clarity with a dense, persistent, off-white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Intense hop aroma featuring heavy citrus (grapefruit and orange), resinous pine, and tropical notes of mango and berry. Malt is very low and neutral, presenting as a light, crackery graininess. Clean fermentation profile with a subtle, smooth alcohol presence.
Taste. Explosive citrus and pine flavors lead the palate, followed by stone fruit and tropical berry notes. Bitterness is very high but clean and well-integrated into the body. A soft, supportive malt character provides a lean backdrop. The finish is decisively dry with a long, resinous, and hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate-high. A distinct but pleasant and well-integrated alcohol warmth is present without any harsh hop-derived astringency.
