Vandenbroek Brut Nebbiolo is a sophisticated Fruit Lambic that bridges the gap between wild beer and fine wine. Spontaneously fermented and wood-aged, it features the structural complexity of Nebbiolo grape must. The prolonged contact with grape skins and pips for ten months imparts deep, vinous tannins and earthy notes that harmonize with a sharp, lemony acidity. Its profile is defined by a rustic funk—hay, horse blanket, and leather—intertwined with dried red berries and rose petal nuances characteristic of the Nebbiolo grape. The finish is bone-dry and effervescent, reminiscent of a sparkling wine, with a lingering, elegant tartness and mineral depth.
Appearance. Presents a pale ruby to copper-pink hue (7–10 SRM) with a slight haze from fruit maceration. It supports a thick, rocky, mousse-like off-white head with a faint pink tint and excellent persistence.
Aroma. High-intensity aroma featuring fermented Nebbiolo grape notes of dried cherry and violet. These blend seamlessly with complex Gueuze-like aromatics of barnyard funk, damp hay, aged oak, and a sharp lactic acidity.
Taste. Initial impression is bracingly tart and bone-dry. The flavor profile leads with sour red fruit and grape skins, followed by complex funky notes of leather and earth. Virtually no hop bitterness is present, as balance is provided by the high acidity and structural tannins from the grape pips. The finish is very dry and crisp with a lingering vinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Light to medium-light body with high, sparkling carbonation that provides a prickly, champagne-like texture. A light tannic astringency from the skins is present, alongside a subtle, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
