Valentivm Cerveza Artesana

Valentivm Porter presents a modern take on the classic English Porter, leaning into a bolder hop profile while maintaining a traditional malt backbone. The grist, featuring Pale malt, Caramel malt, and Roasted malt, creates a deep mahogany foundation layered with intense torrefacto notes of dark coffee and anise-like licorice. The use of Columbus hops introduces an assertive, earthy, and slightly spicy counterpoint to the rich, toasty malt sweetness. Aromas of cocoa and burnt sugar mingle with a moderate floral hop presence. On the palate, the balance shifts toward a pleasantly dry finish, where the roasted bitterness and Columbus hop character linger together, offering a complex yet approachable dark ale experience.

Appearance. Dark brown to nearly black in color (25-30 SRM) with deep ruby highlights when held to light. Topped by a persistent, creamy, light tan head that leaves moderate lacing on the glass. Generally opaque, though showing clarity at the edges.

Aroma. Moderate intensity with a dominant roasted malt profile featuring notes of dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans. A secondary sweetness of caramel and toffee provides depth. The hop aroma is moderate, showcasing the earthy, herbal, and slightly resinous qualities of Columbus hops. Low fruity esters of dried plum are present.

Taste. The initial impression is of toasty malt and caramel sweetness, quickly followed by a firm roast character. Distinct flavors of black coffee and licorice emerge mid-palate. Bitterness is moderate, derived from both the roasted grains and the Columbus hops, providing a balanced structure. The finish is moderately dry with a lingering roasted-grain and herbal hop aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-bodied with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate, providing a light tingle on the tongue. At 5.5% ABV, there is a very subtle, well-integrated alcohol warmth that enhances the drinkability without being harsh.
