Urbanaut Brewing

Bear Island is a decadent American Stout that elegantly bridges the gap between classic roasted intensity and dessert-like complexity. Urbanaut Brewing utilizes a robust malt base to project deep notes of dark chocolate and espresso, which are seamlessly softened by the rich, woody sweetness of maple syrup. The addition of pecans introduces a savory, buttery depth and a subtle toasted nuttiness that lingers on the palate. Despite the adjuncts, a firm American hop bitterness ensures the beer remains balanced, leading into a smooth, medium-full finish where charred grain and sweet maple notes harmoniously coexist.

Appearance. Jet black (38 SRM) and opaque; features a large, persistent light tan head with excellent lacing.

Aroma. High intensity with a dominant aroma of roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate, layered with distinct woody maple syrup and earthy, toasted pecan notes. A low resinous hop character is present in the background.

Taste. Initial flavors of roasted coffee beans and dark chocolate are followed by a rich, buttery pecan mid-palate and a sweet maple accent. Moderate hop bitterness provides balance against the malt sweetness, finishing medium-dry with a lingering nutty and lightly charred aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, somewhat creamy texture; moderate to medium-high carbonation provides a lively lift, accompanied by light alcohol warmth.
