Urban Brewing Scottish Ale
This Scottish Light pours a deep copper, revealing a malt-forward profile built on a foundation of Irish ale malt. The aroma is defined by toasted bread and English biscuits, accented by the sweet, sugary nuances of Crystal malt and a subtle hint of butterscotch. On the palate, initial layers of toffee and caramel provide a soft sweetness that is expertly countered by a delicate roasty dryness derived from the inclusion of roast malts. With its light carbonation and medium-low body, the experience is exceptionally smooth, finishing clean with just enough bitterness to maintain balance without overshadowing the rich, bready core.
Appearance. Deep copper color with brilliant clarity. Topped by a low, creamy, off-white head with moderate retention and fine lacing.
Aroma. Moderate malt intensity featuring notes of toasted breadcrumbs, graham crackers, and toffee. Subtle esters of red apple are present, alongside a faint earthy hop character and a whiff of caramelized sugar.
Taste. Initial impression of sweet, bready malt and toffee. The mid-palate showcases flavors of burnt sugar and raisins, followed by a slightly roasty dryness in the finish. Hop bitterness is low, providing just enough structure to prevent a cloying sensation while allowing a malty, clean aftertaste to linger.
