This Oud Bruin is a complex, high-gravity interpretation of the Belgian classic, presenting a bold sensory tapestry. Deep malt layers of caramel and chocolate provide a sturdy foundation for an intricate profile of dark fruit, specifically black cherry. Unique notes of licorice and warming ginger intermingle with a subtle peppery phenol, enhancing the beer’s effervescent sour character. Despite its significant strength, the palate remains approachably tart with a surprising dryness. The interaction between the rich, sugary malt depth and the sharp lactic acidity creates a sophisticated sweet-and-sour balance, finished by a lingering spicy and warming finish.
Appearance. Dark reddish-brown to light brown in color with distinct amber hues (SRM 18–22). The beer exhibits good clarity and is highly effervescent, supporting a light tan head with moderate retention.
