Unverhopft Midnight Hour
Midnight Hour is a sophisticated Specialty IPA that masterfully bridges the gap between dark malt complexity and vibrant hop expression. Utilizing 100% Cryo hops, it presents an intensified aromatic profile where the classic citrus and floral notes of Cascade shine with exceptional clarity. The sensory experience is defined by the way these bright, fruity hop cues pierce through a deep, roasted malt foundation, offering layers of grapefruit and pine alongside subtle hints of unsweetened cocoa and toasted bread. The result is a surprisingly elegant and drinkable dark ale that remains true to its hop-forward roots while providing a smooth, velvety malt finish.
Appearance. Deep black and opaque (SRM 38). Topped with a persistent, creamy, light tan head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High hop intensity featuring prominent grapefruit, citrus zest, and resinous pine from the Cascade Cryo hops. This is supported by moderate malt notes of baker’s chocolate, light-roast coffee, and a clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Initial impression is a sharp, clean hop bitterness followed by citrus-forward hop flavors. The malt character provides a restrained chocolate and toffee backdrop without any burnt or ashy harshness. It features a medium-high bitterness that remains firm into a dry, crisp finish with a lingering resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Moderate carbonation provides a lively lift, while the 5.8% ABV offers a very light, well-integrated warmth.
