Celestial Visions is a striking Black IPA that balances the mysterious depth of dark malts with a vibrant, modern hop profile. The beer presents a midnight-black appearance, yet the aromatics remain decidedly bright and hop-forward. Azacca hops deliver punchy notes of mango and tropical fruit, while the classic Cascade contribution provides grounding resinous pine and grapefruit zest. This citrusy interplay is supported by a subtle, restrained malt backbone featuring light chocolate and toasted bread flavors without any harsh, ashy acridity. The result is a surprisingly drinkable experience that maintains the refreshing dryness and assertive bitterness of an American IPA despite its obsidian hue.
Appearance. Dark brown to black (35 SRM); opaque in the glass with a thick, persistent tan head that leaves significant lacing.
Aroma. High intensity; prominent tropical fruit notes of mango and pineapple from Azacca hops, complemented by grapefruit and floral pine from Cascade. Very low malt presence of toasted bread and light cocoa; clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Assertive hop flavors of citrus zest and tropical fruit lead into a mid-palate of restrained roasted malt, offering hints of coffee and unsweetened chocolate. High bitterness is firm but not harsh. The finish is dry and clean with a lingering resinous and slightly roasty aftertaste that remains smooth.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Moderate carbonation provides a crisp lift. Very light alcohol warmth at 5.8% ABV; no astringency.
