UCHU BREWING RESORT -Athena- is a sensory-rich Double IPA that evokes a high-end galactic cocktail. A potent blend of Citra, Motueka, and Simcoe hops delivers an intense citrus profile of lemonade, orange, and lime, further amplified by the addition of real lemon. The grain bill, enriched with oats and lactose, provides a velvety, luxurious foundation that balances the assertive bitterness. Expect a vibrant interplay between tropical fruit esters and sharp citrus zest, while the 8.5% alcohol provides a well-integrated, smooth warmth. This beer balances the punch of a hop-forward ale with the sophisticated, lush textures of a signature resort drink.
Appearance. 6–9 SRM. Pale gold to light amber with a persistent, dense white head leaving thick lacing. While the base style allows for clarity, the heavy dry-hopping and oat additions result in a characteristic heavy haze.
Aroma. High intensity citrus bouquet of lemon peel, lime zest, and tangerine. Significant tropical notes of passion fruit and mango from the Citra and Simcoe hops are present. A light, sweet bready malt and faint creamy lactose presence sit beneath the aggressive hop profile.
Taste. Initial burst of lemon-lime and orange zest. Hop bitterness is high but softened by a creamy sweetness from the lactose and oats. The malt flavor is neutral and grainy, supporting the hop oils. Motueka adds a distinctive mojito-like lime, while the finish is medium-dry with a lingering citrus oil and pithy bitterness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body, enhanced by oats and lactose for a velvety, creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate. A smooth, integrated alcohol warmth is present at 8.5% ABV, with no harsh hop-derived astringency.
