UCHU BREWING GRAND CROSS
GRAND CROSS is an intensely saturated Double IPA that showcases a luminous collision of New Zealand hops. A massive triple dry-hop addition of Motueka, Nelson Sauvin, and Rakau delivers a vibrant aromatic profile of crushed gooseberry, lime, and white grape. On the palate, this 10% powerhouse explodes with layers of tropical pineapple and mango, underscored by sharp mandarin and grapefruit citrus. The mouthfeel is exceptionally smooth and velvety, hiding its strength behind a juicy, resinous texture. The finish is remarkably clean for its size, leaving a lingering impression of sun-ripened stone fruit and crisp citrus zest.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper color (8-12 SRM) with a significant, persistent white head. Exhibits a modern hazy clarity from the intensive dry-hopping process.
Aroma. Intensity is high, dominated by New World hop characteristics of passion fruit, lime zest, and crushed grapes. Supportive, clean, neutral grainy maltiness is subtle in the background. Fermentation is clean with a light, smooth alcohol note and moderate tropical esters.
Taste. Initial impression of intense tropical fruit including pineapple and mango. Hop flavors of mandarin, grapefruit, and lime are prominent. Moderately high bitterness provides necessary balance but remains smooth rather than harsh. Low, supportive bready malt character leads to a medium-dry finish with a long, resinous, and fruity aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a creamy, smooth texture. Moderate carbonation. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth that adds to the perceived weight without being solventy. Lacks any harsh hop-derived astringency.
