This decadent Sweet Stout offers a rich sensory journey centered on the indulgence of salted caramel. Inspired by traditional Scottish profiles, it layers the deep, dark fruit and toffee notes of Belgian candi sugar with the velvety, cream-like sweetness of lactose. The addition of sea salt provides a subtle, savory counterpoint that sharpens the chocolate and coffee roast character. Despite its complex, chewy texture and full-bodied presence, the beer remains sessionable. Its profile is defined by a lingering, luxurious sweetness balanced by a gentle, earthy bitterness, creating a dessert-like experience that is both sophisticated and approachable.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40) with a dense, persistent, creamy tan head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity featuring prominent notes of milk chocolate, sweetened espresso, and rich caramel. The Belgian candi sugar contributes subtle dark fruit esters like plum or raisin, while the lactose provides a distinct cream-like sweetness. Hop aroma is absent.
Taste. Initial impressions of chocolate and toasted grains are quickly followed by a wave of salted caramel sweetness.
