This American Stout evokes the nostalgic comfort of a Dutch stroopwafel, blending deep roasted foundations with decadent dessert layers. The aroma opens with intense dark chocolate and roasted coffee, quickly followed by warm cinnamon and aromatic vanilla. On the palate, a complex grain bill of dark, crystal, and caramel malts provides a luxurious, medium-full body brimming with burnt sugar and cocoa. While the style’s signature bitterness provides structure, it is softened by rich caramel sweetness and the spiced pastry notes. The result is a smooth, creamy experience where vanilla and chocolate linger alongside a clean, roasted finish.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque in the glass (approx. 40 SRM). It supports a large, persistent light tan head with excellent retention and fine lacing.
Aroma. High intensity of roasted malt featuring dark chocolate and coffee, layered with pronounced vanilla and warm cinnamon. Moderate sweet malt character from the caramel and crystal malts is present, with very low resinous hop notes and subtle fermentation esters.
Taste. Initial impression of bittersweet chocolate and heavily roasted grain. The mid-palate is dominated by rich caramel and vanilla sweetness, mimicking a spiced syrup. Medium-high bitterness is present but smoothed by the malt depth. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering aftertaste of cinnamon and cocoa.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a creamy and luxurious texture. Moderate carbonation provides a gentle lift, while a light alcohol warmth is noticeable but smooth. Very low roast-derived astringency.
