Imperial Stout 12 º
Second Breakfast is an indulgent, high-gravity Imperial Stout that delivers an intense sensory profile of liquid mocha. At 12% ABV, the beer features a complex foundation of malted barley, wheat, and oats, which creates an exceptionally velvety and luscious mouthfeel. The aroma is dominated by toasted hazelnut and rich caramel, blending seamlessly with deep roasted coffee notes. On the palate, the interplay of bittersweet chocolate and nutty sweetness provides a decadent experience, while the firm bitterness of the style base maintains balance. It finishes with a lingering, warming sensation and a final flourish of dark-roasted grain and espresso.
Appearance. Opaque jet black with a dense, persistent deep tan head. High viscosity is apparent through visible legs on the glass after swirling.
Aroma. High intensity featuring a rich blend of roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Prominent toasted hazelnut and buttery caramel notes are layered over black licorice and dried plum esters. A clean, warming alcohol presence is well-integrated.
Taste. Initial impression is dominated by intense mocha and sweet caramel. Toasted hazelnut provides a nutty depth that complements bittersweet chocolate and roasted grain. Bitterness is firm but balanced by significant malt sweetness. The finish is long and warming with lingering espresso and burnt sugar.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture derived from the oats and wheat. Carbonation is low to moderate. A smooth alcohol warmth provides a noticeable but background character.
