Astral Deception is a vibrant American Pale Ale that highlights a modern, hop-forward profile through a double dry-hopped lens. This collaboration creates a layered sensory experience where the specific hop trio takes center stage. Mosaic drives notes of ripe blueberries and tropical stone fruit, while Galaxy adds intense passionfruit and citrus zest. Nelson Sauvin provides a distinctive vinous character, reminiscent of crushed gooseberries and white wine grapes. The inclusion of wheat and oats ensures a soft, rounded malt foundation that supports the bold hop saturation without adding cloying sweetness, resulting in a balanced, drinkable beer with a clean, fruity finish.
Appearance. Pale golden (6 SRM). Large, white, frothy head with excellent retention and lacing. Due to being unfined and containing wheat and oats, the clarity is hazy to opaque.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring complex layers of passionfruit, mango, and blueberry, with a notable white grape and gooseberry edge. Low bready and grainy maltiness provides a neutral backdrop. Clean fermentation profile with very low fruity esters.
Taste. The initial impression is hop-dominant, following the aroma with flavors of tropical fruit, berry, and a distinct vinous character. Medium-low grainy malt flavor supports a moderate bitterness that is firm but well-integrated. The finish is medium-dry and clean, with a lingering aftertaste of citrus peel and tropical fruit. Mosaic and Galaxy provide the primary fruit weight, while Nelson Sauvin adds a crisp, dry white wine complexity.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a characteristic silkiness and creaminess derived from the oat and wheat additions. Carbonation is moderate to high. Alcohol warmth is very low, and there is no perceived astringency despite the heavy dry-hopping.
