This Imperial Stout presents a decadent sensory tapestry forged by thirty months of double barrel aging. The dual influence of Heaven Hill Bourbon and Rittenhouse Rye whiskey barrels imparts profound notes of toasted oak, spicy grain, and charred caramel. Heady aromas of Madagascar Vanilla and toasted Coconut intertwine with the earthy richness of Macadamia Nuts and honeyed Graham Cracker. A concentrated Coffee infusion provides a necessary roasty counterpoint to the velvet-like sweetness of Marshmallow. At 14% ABV, the warmth is significant yet integrated, supporting a syrupy, viscous texture that defines this indulgent, multi-layered collaboration.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. Pours with a thick, deep tan head that shows moderate retention. Distinct viscosity is evident, leaving thick legs on the glass surface upon swirling.
Aroma. High intensity and extraordinarily complex. Initial waves of rich espresso and dark chocolate are followed by heavy barrel influence—vanilla, oak, and a spicy rye prickle. The adjuncts are prominent, featuring sweet coconut, floral Madagascar Vanilla, and a nutty macadamia undertone. Subtle notes of honey-sweetened graham cracker and toasted marshmallow round out the bouquet.
Taste. An indulgent initial impression of bittersweet chocolate and concentrated coffee. The mid-palate explodes with sweet adjunct flavors: creamy coconut, marshmallow fluff, and rich vanilla bean. Barrel aging contributes layers of bourbon-soaked oak, caramel, and a distinct peppery rye spice. The finish is lingering and sweet, with the macadamia nuts providing a buttery depth that balances the roasted grain bitterness and alcohol presence.
Mouthfeel. Full to very full-bodied with a heavy, chewy, and syrupy viscosity. Carbonation is low, enhancing the creamy, coating texture. A smooth, significant alcohol warmth is present, reflecting the 14% ABV without being sharp or solventy.
