Treen's Resolve presents a concentrated sensory journey into the depths of a Foreign Extra Stout. Dominated by a profound roasted malt profile, the experience is a complex interplay between bittersweet dark chocolate and robust, freshly ground coffee. Despite its intense aromatics, the beer maintains a smooth, comforting character that glides across the palate. This richness is underpinned by a subtle, underlying dark fruit ester profile, typical of the style's heritage. The finish is remarkably clean yet satisfyingly dry, leaving a lingering impression of charred grain and cocoa that provides a balanced, warming conclusion to every sip.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 35+). Pours with a thick, persistent, tan-colored head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity of roasted grain, reminiscent of French roast coffee and 80% dark chocolate. Beneath the roast, moderate esters of plum and raisin emerge, supported by a low, earthy hop presence and a faint hint of molasses.
Taste. The initial impression is driven by deep roasted malt, offering flavors of bitter cocoa and espresso without harsh acridity. Medium-high bitterness from both hops and charred grain provides a firm structure. Low dark-fruit esters add complexity to the middle, leading to a moderately dry finish with a lingering, smooth aftertaste of toasted malt.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a noticeably smooth, creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate, and despite the sessionable ABV, there is a very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
