This Munich Helles presents a sophisticated union of tradition and unique maturation, centered on a clean, grainy-sweet Continental Pilsner malt foundation. While the base beer delivers the classic soft, bready profile expected of the style, its time in chestnut casks introduces a subtle, woodsy nuttiness and a hint of earthy complexity that distinguishes it from standard lagers. Traditional herbal and floral hop notes remain restrained, allowing the malt and delicate wood character to lead. The result is a gold-colored lager with a rounded palate and a smooth, dry finish, showcasing impeccable fermentation and a distinctive, rustic elegance.
Appearance. Brilliant pale gold (4 SRM) with excellent clarity and a persistent, creamy white head that leaves delicate lacing.
Aroma. Moderate grainy-sweet malt aroma reminiscent of fresh bread dough. Low herbal and spicy hop notes are present, backed by a subtle, unique earthy and nutty scent from the chestnut cask. Fermentation is clean with no sulfur or diacetyl.
Taste. Moderately malty start with a soft, grainy-sweet malt flavor. Low bitterness provides just enough balance to prevent cloying, while a gentle wood-derived nuttiness adds depth. Low floral hop flavor leads into a soft, dry finish that emphasizes malt over hops. Aftertaste remains clean and bready.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, well-lagered character. Moderate carbonation. Alcohol warmth is negligible, and the chestnut aging adds a very slight, pleasant structural roundness without being astringent.
