Jetphilia is a monumental Imperial Stout born from a collaboration with Off Trail, utilizing ten distinct varieties of grain and an extensive twenty-four-hour boil to achieve an extraordinary viscosity. The sensory profile is defined by a dense, ganache-like texture that carries rich aromas of fragrant vanilla and toasted hazelnut. While the nose suggests a decadent dessert, the palate reveals a sophisticated interplay of bittersweet chocolate and deep roasted malts. A firm bitterness ensures the profile remains balanced rather than cloying, finishing with a warming, chestnut-like depth and a lingering presence of dark cocoa and refined alcohol.
Appearance. Color is a jet black (40+ SRM) and completely opaque. It supports a thick, creamy, deep tan head with moderate retention. High viscosity is evident through pronounced legs clinging to the glass.
Aroma. High intensity. Rich, decadent layers of dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans meld with prominent, natural vanilla and oily hazelnut. Subtle dark fruit esters of prune and black currant are present, alongside a smooth, clean alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression is intensely malty and sweet, quickly countered by a firm hop bitterness and roasted grain astringency. Flavors of bittersweet chocolate, toasted nuts, and vanilla dominate. The mid-palate features a complex grain character with hints of black licorice. The finish is long and bittersweet, leaning toward a clean, roasty aftertaste rather than a syrupy one.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied, chewy, and luscious with a velvety, ganache-like texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present, enhancing the beer's substantial weight without being harsh.
