The sensory journey begins with an intense bouquet of espresso and dark chocolate, interlaced with the peaty, smoky whispers of Scotch whisky and vanilla-scented oak. On the palate, a luxurious, creamy sweetness from the milk sugar softens the aggressive roasted grains, while deep notes of prune and black currant emerge. The 13.1% ABV provides a significant, smooth warmth that carries through a lingering, bittersweet finish, harmonizing the barrel-aged complexity with its viscous, velvety body.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. Pours with a thick, persistent deep tan head that leaves dense lacing. High viscosity is apparent through prominent legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominated by bittersweet chocolate, heavy roasted coffee, and charred grain. Underlying layers of peat smoke and vanilla from Scotch oak barrels are accompanied by dark fruit esters of raisin and plum, with a hint of creamy sweetness.
Taste. Initial impression of rich chocolate ganache and creamy lactose sweetness. Transitions into intense roasted malt flavors of espresso and black licorice. The Scotch whisky influence adds earthy smoke and oak tannins. Bitterness is firm but balanced by the heavy residual sugar. Finishes long and warming with a lingering cocoa powder and peaty aftertaste.
