Shameless Santa is a decadent Belgian Dark Strong Ale that masterfully balances festive richness with modern hop complexity. An inviting foundation of Caramel malts provides deep notes of toffee and roasted marshmallow, while the highly attenuated yeast lends a dry yet ester-driven backbone. The addition of Mandarina Bavaria and Calypso hops introduces a vibrant layer of citrus zest and pear, cutting through the 10% ABV warmth. This "greasy balanced" profile offers a smooth, slick mouthfeel reminiscent of chocolate fondue, finishing with a harmonious blend of spicy phenols and lingering stone fruit. It is a bold, holiday-focused powerhouse that remains surprisingly drinkable despite its immense strength.
Appearance. Deep copper to mahogany brown (SRM 18-22). Huge, dense, moussy light tan head with excellent persistence and thick lacing. Crystal clear despite its high gravity.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex bouquet of rich, toasty malt and dark caramel. Prominent esters of plum and raisin are joined by distinct citrus notes from Mandarina Bavaria hops and a hint of pear from Calypso. Low spicy phenols suggestive of black pepper and a soft, perfumy alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression is malty-rich with flavors of caramel and roasted marshmallow. Hop bitterness is moderate (approx. 30 IBU), providing balance against the malt sweetness and sugar adjuncts. Mid-palette reveals dark fruit complexity and citrus oil, while the finish is surprisingly dry and clean for the style. Lingering notes of cocoa and spicy yeast esters persist in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a creamy, almost slick texture. High carbonation provides a lively scrub on the tongue. Noticeable, smooth alcohol warmth that glows in the chest without being harsh or solventy.
