This 2019 Edition of Mr. Blue is a decadent Imperial Stout that commands attention with a deep, dark roast profile merged with the vibrant, tart character of blackcurrants. The roasted malts provide a sturdy foundation of dark chocolate and espresso, while the fruit adds a complex, vinous acidity. At 10.1% ABV, it offers a sophisticated warmth that complements its massive, warrior-like body. Expect a harmonious interplay between bittersweet cocoa and the sharp, dark berry notes, resulting in a rich, velvet-textured experience that feels both powerful and elegantly balanced between sweetness and acidity.

Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (SRM 40+). It supports a thick, dense, deep tan head with excellent retention and significant oily lacing on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity aroma featuring a rich blend of dark chocolate, espresso, and black licorice. Distinctive and sharp blackcurrant notes provide a tart, vinous top note, supported by esters of plum and raisin. A smooth, clean alcohol warmth is present alongside very low earthy hops.

Taste. The initial impression is one of intense bittersweet cocoa and roasted grain. The mid-palate is dominated by the tart, tangy flavor of blackcurrants which cuts through the malt sweetness. Bitterness is medium-high but balanced by the fruit's acidity and the beer’s residual sugars. The finish is long and complex, lingering with notes of burnt coffee, dark berry skin, and a pleasant alcohol warmth.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied with a thick, chewy, and velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the luscious mouth-coating quality. A noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth is present without being harsh or solventy.
