This 2022 edition of an Imperial Stout is a decadent, sensory-rich experience defined by its extensive time in Bourbon barrels. It presents an opaque, obsidian pour with an oily viscosity. The nose is a complex tapestry of roasted coffee, toasted hazelnuts, and aromatic vanilla, layered over a deep base of dark chocolate from cacao nibs. On the palate, the sweetness of lactose is masterfully countered by a pinch of sea salt and firm roasted malt bitterness. Charred oak and smooth bourbon warmth linger in the finish, creating a luxurious, full-bodied profile that balances pastry-inspired richness with classic stout intensity.

Appearance. Opaque, jet black with deep mahogany highlights. A dense, dark tan head shows moderate retention, leaving significant oily legs on the glass as a testament to its high viscosity and alcohol content.

Aroma. High intensity and extremely complex. Bold notes of freshly roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate dominate, supported by secondary aromas of toasted hazelnuts, vanilla, and charred oak from the Bourbon barrels. Low dark fruit esters of prune and raisin are present, along with a distinct but smooth alcoholic presence.

Taste. An intense, multi-layered profile featuring initial impressions of dark chocolate and sweet cream from lactose. Mid-palate highlights include rich espresso, nutty hazelnut, and woody Bourbon. Bitterness is moderate and primarily derived from roasted malts, providing necessary balance. The sea salt subtly brightens the cacao character. It finishes long and bittersweet with a lingering warmth.

Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious, and coating texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present but integrated, avoiding any harshness or solvent qualities.
