Utilizing highly roasted Carafa malts for color without the heavy residual sweetness of a stout, it offers a sophisticated profile of delicate dark chocolate and scorched earth. The potent hop bill—featuring Columbus, Centennial, Galaxy, and Cascade—delivers a layered punch of resinous pine, bright citrus, and tropical passionfruit. Despite its dark appearance, the beer maintains the dry, drinkable character of an American IPA, finishing with a firm bitterness that highlights the seamless interplay between toasted grains and pungent hop oils.
Appearance. Deep mahogany to opaque black (SRM 35-40). Pours with a thick, persistent light tan head that leaves significant lacing on the glass. Clarity is high, though it appears opaque due to the depth of color.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma leads with resinous pine and floral grapefruit, followed by a distinct tropical hit of passionfruit. The malt presence is moderate, providing clean notes of dark chocolate and toasted crust from the specialty roasted malts, with very low caramel sweetness and a clean fermentation profile.
