This Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer, brewed as a Stout, leads with the vibrant scent of freshly ground medium-roast coffee beans. The collaboration between Timber Ales and Marlowe Artisanal Ales balances decadent layers of dark chocolate and toasted crust with a leaner, more drinkable body than typical high-gravity stouts. The coffee remains the primary sensory driver, providing a roasted depth that integrates seamlessly with the charred grain character. The result is a harmonious experience that emphasizes clarity of flavor and a smooth, lingering espresso finish.
Appearance. Opaque, ebony to jet black (SRM 40+). Pours with a thick, creamy tan head that demonstrates moderate retention and leaves light lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans and cold-brew concentrate. Underlying malt character of dark chocolate, cocoa powder, and toasted bread. Very low hop aroma; clean fermentation profile with only a hint of dark fruit esters.
Taste. Immediate impact of espresso and mocha. The mid-palate reveals roasted barley and dark chocolate malt sweetness. Moderate bitterness from both roasted grains and hops provides balance without being harsh. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering coffee aftertaste and a clean fermentation character.
