This Doppelbock presents a sophisticated interplay between traditional German malt depth and a restrained, approachable smokiness. Despite its moderate strength, the beer remains exceptionally smooth, showcasing the clean lager character typical of the style. Appearance. Deep copper to dark brown with brilliant ruby highlights. Displays excellent clarity and is topped by a large, creamy, persistent off-white head that leaves dense lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity of bready and toasty malt, rich with Maillard-driven bread crust and very light caramel. A clean, integrated layer of woody smoke provides a savory counterpoint to the malt sweetness. Low esters of plum or dark grape are present. Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate to moderately-low, providing a gentle lift. A light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, and the beer is completely free of astringency.
