Threshold’s Perun reimagines the Munich Dunkel through a Polish lens, utilizing traditional Lubelski hops and buckwheat. The result is a deep, mahogany-hued lager characterized by its rich Central European malts. On the nose, it offers a bouquet of toasted bread crusts and subtle nuttiness from the buckwheat, complemented by the herbal, spicy nuances of the Lubelski hops. The palate is strikingly crisp and toasty, balancing malt richness with a light, clean finish. This dark lager avoids roasted harshness, favoring a smooth, bready core that highlights the unique earthiness of the adjunct grain while maintaining traditional lager elegance.
Appearance. Deep copper to dark brown with distinct garnet highlights (approx. 22-26 SRM). It pours with a creamy, persistent, light-tan head and exhibits excellent clarity.
Aroma. Moderate to high malt richness featuring aromas of toasted bread crusts, mild chocolate, and a unique nutty, earthy note from the buckwheat. A light herbal and spicy hop character from the Lubelski is present. Clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Toasty malt flavors dominate the initial impression, followed by bready richness and a hint of dark grain earthiness. Restrained bitterness maintains a malty balance. The finish is crisp and medium-dry with a lingering toasted aftertaste. No burnt or acrid roasted flavors.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a soft, smooth texture. Moderate carbonation provides a crisp edge. Low alcohol warmth, well-integrated and refreshing without any astringency.
