Ode To Malva is a decadent American Stout that pushes the boundaries of the style with an intense, multilayered chocolate profile. Inspired by local chocolatiers, this 9% brew features a complex integration of Solomon Island cacao husks and cacao nibs, creating a deep, bittersweet chocolate core supported by roasted coffee and charred grain notes. Tongan vanilla beans weave through the palate, providing a velvety aromatic lift and a subtle, creamy sweetness that balances the aggressive hop bitterness and roasted intensity typical of the style. Rich and warming, it offers a luxurious sensory experience where earthy dark cocoa meets a resinous hop finish, encapsulating a bold yet sophisticated tribute to artisanal craft.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). Pours with a large, persistent, and dense head of light brown foam that leaves thick lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity aroma dominated by dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans. Distinctive earthy, rich cocoa notes from Solomon Island cacao nibs are complemented by a floral, creamy Tongan vanilla sweetness. Low resinous hop character and moderate dark fruit esters are present, alongside a smooth, clean alcohol warmth.
Taste. Initial impression is intensely roasted with bittersweet chocolate and burnt coffee grounds. Rich Solomon Island cacao provides a deep cocoa flavor, while Tongan vanilla beans offer a rounding sweetness. High hop bitterness and a medium-low resinous hop flavor provide a sharp counterpoint to the heavy malt. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering, lightly burnt quality and a sophisticated dark chocolate aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a velvety creaminess. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a crispness that cuts through the richness. Noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth is present without being hot or fusel. Very low roast-derived astringency.
