Three Boys Brewery IPA presents a modern interpretation of the classic English IPA, bridging traditional structure with a vibrant selection of NZ hops. The sensory journey begins with a distinctive aromatic profile where spicy and citrus-orange notes meet the unique tropical and zesty character of New Zealand’s hop varieties. A supportive backbone of bready and biscuity malts provides balance to a firm, assertive bitterness that remains clean rather than harsh. This well-attenuated ale finishes medium-dry, leaving a lingering hop presence that honors its historical maritime roots while celebrating contemporary southern-hemisphere ingredients.
Appearance. Deep golden to light amber with brilliant clarity. Topped by a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head that leaves delicate lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Moderate to high hop intensity featuring floral, spicy-peppery, and bright citrus-orange notes. A subtle tropical undertone from the NZ hops is complemented by medium-low bready and toasted malt character. Low fruity esters are present.
Taste. Initial bready and lightly caramelized malt flavors are quickly overtaken by a medium-high hop flavor profile of spice and orange zest. Moderate to assertive bitterness provides a firm structure. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering, clean hop bitterness and a faint minerally character.
Mouthfeel. Smooth, medium-bodied with a crisp, medium-high carbonation that enhances the dry finish. Very low, well-integrated alcohol warmth is appropriate for its strength.
