Thorns Wit

Thorns Wit is a sophisticated take on the classic Belgian Witbier, offering a slightly more substantial body through the use of spelt wheat. The aromatic profile is elegantly perfumed, led by the floral addition of elderflower which complements the traditional lemony zing of coriander and zesty orange peel. A soft, bready malt foundation supports a bouquet of citrus and delicate blossom notes. High carbonation ensures the beer remains refreshing despite its enhanced texture, finishing crisp and dry with a lingering botanical character. It captures a vibrant, spicy complexity while maintaining the approachable refreshment expected of a traditional Witbier.

Appearance. Very pale straw to light gold (SRM 3) with a distinct, milky opalescence. It features a dense, white, moussy head with persistent retention and fine lacing.

Aroma. Moderate to high intensity featuring a bright, floral perfume of elderflower and zesty orange peel. Underlying notes of spicy, lemony coriander and a grainy, bready malt character from the spelt wheat are evident, with very low fruity yeast esters.

Taste. Initial impression is a refreshing burst of citrus and floral notes. A soft, bready malt flavor follows, enriched by the grainy texture of spelt. Flavors of elderflower and orange peel are prominent but balanced by a moderate spicy coriander character. Hop bitterness is low, supporting a refreshingly crisp and dry finish with no harsh aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium body, which is slightly fuller than typical examples of the style, providing a smooth and light creaminess. High carbonation creates a lively, effervescent mouthfeel. Low alcohol warmth with no astringency.

We vonden het namelijk hoog tijd worden dat het stadje een eigen witbier kreeg. En zo geschiedde. Bij Thorns Wit brouwen we uitsluitend witbieren. Wist je dat witbier eigenlijk een verbastering van het woord tarwebier is? Denk aan 'wheat', 'weiß' en 'weit' in het oud Nederlands. Tarwe is het voornaamste ingrediënt wat witbieren met elkaar verbindt. Ook kom je vaak koriander en sinaasappel tegen in witbier. Met witbier kan je eindeloos variëren. We brouwen graag met bijzondere kruiden en aromatische hoppen.
