Thornbridge Brewery 1838

English Pale Ale 4.5 º 30 IBU
This premium Ordinary Bitter, crafted via the historic Burton Union system, showcases a sophisticated sensory profile anchored by the rich, nutty, and biscuity depth of Maris Otter malt. Pouring a light amber with brilliant clarity, it offers an inviting aroma of floral and earthy Savinjski Goldings hops. The palate is defined by a harmonious balance between toasty malt sweetness and a moderate hop bitterness, characteristic of the style but enhanced by the unique fermentation process. Despite its sessionable strength, the beer delivers a surprisingly full-bodied experience, culminating in a clean, crisp, and refreshing finish that highlights its traditional English heritage.
Appearance. Light amber to pale copper in color (approximately 9-11 SRM). Displays brilliant clarity with a low to moderate off-white head that exhibits fair retention and light lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity with a dominant bready and biscuity malt character from the Maris Otter. Hop aroma is moderate and refined, showing floral, herbal, and slightly earthy notes from the Savinjski Goldings. Very low fruity esters are present, contributing to a clean fermentation profile.
Taste. The initial impression is of rich, toasted biscuit and bready malt. Hop flavor follows with floral and spicy notes. Bitterness is moderate, providing enough structure to balance the malt without becoming aggressive. The finish is notably dry and crisp, with a lingering hint of earthy hops and toasted grain.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light to medium body, offering more perceived fullness than typical for the gravity due to the Burton Union process. Carbonation is moderate. Smooth texture with no astringency and no alcohol warmth.
