This Imperial Porter presents a luxurious sensory experience, defined by a massive infusion of Ghanaian cacao nibs that amplify the natural chocolate malt character. The elevated alcohol content provides a significant, well-integrated warmth that supports a dense profile of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and subtle burnt sugar. While rooted in the American Porter tradition, the intensity is heightened, showcasing a complex interplay between assertive roasted grains and a decadent, fudgy sweetness. A moderate hop bitterness balances the rich, malty weight, leading to a lingering, cocoa-driven finish that is both robust and velvety.
Appearance. Opaque black (SRM 40+), with a thick, tan-colored head that shows excellent retention and leaves dense lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity of dark chocolate and rich cocoa powder from the Ghanaian cacao nibs, supported by roasted malt notes of espresso and toasted bread. Subtle background notes of caramel and light resinous hops, with a faint suggestion of dark fruit esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a deep, fudgy chocolate and roasted grain sweetness. Layers of chocolate malt and earthy cocoa nibs dominate, followed by medium-strong coffee roast and toasted nuts. Medium bitterness provides balance against the substantial malt backbone. The finish is lingering and medium-sweet, featuring a clean roasted character without acridity or harshness.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a smooth, coating creaminess. Moderate carbonation. A noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, with very low grain astringency.
