Conjuration 21 is a striking Black IPA that balances shadowy depths with vibrant hop luminosity. The use of Citra and Simcoe hops provides an intense aromatic profile of bright grapefruit, zesty lime, and resinous pine needles, which contrast beautifully against a backdrop of debittered roasted malts. The inclusion of Rye introduces a subtle, peppery spice and a pleasant grainy complexity that bridges the gap between the clean, dark chocolate malt notes and the firm bitterness. This Specialty IPA finishes dry and crisp, allowing the tropical fruit and forest-floor hop character to linger alongside a gentle, toasted malt smoothness.

Appearance. Deep ebony to black (SRM 38), appearing opaque in the glass. It is topped by a thick, persistent, light tan head that leaves significant lacing.

Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring Citra-driven notes of tangerine and tropical fruit alongside Simcoe’s resinous pine and woodsy dankness. Low to moderate malt presence provides hints of cocoa and toast, while the rye adds a distinct peppery edge. Clean fermentation with no notable esters.

Taste. Initial impression is hop-forward with grapefruit and pine needle flavors. A restrained malt backbone offers dark chocolate and toasted bread without burnt or ashy harshness. The rye contributes a spicy, grainy depth that complements the medium-high bitterness. Finishes dry with a lingering resinous and slightly roasted aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with a slight, characteristic rye slickness. Moderate carbonation provides a crisp mouth-coating. Very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present but subtle.
