Painted Black is a striking Black IPA that masterfully balances the aggressive, punchy character of Simcoe and Citra hops against a backdrop of midnight-hued specialty malts. The nose is greeted with high-intensity notes of resinous pine and tropical grapefruit, subtly underpinned by a whisper of baker's chocolate and toasted bread. On the palate, a firm, clean bitterness takes center stage, while the hop-driven flavors of lime zest and earthy cedar from the Simcoe and Citra additions intertwine with a smooth, debittered roast profile. It finishes remarkably dry and crisp, ensuring the hop-forward essence remains the focal point without any heavy, ashy astringency.

Appearance. Deep ebony to black (SRM 35-40); creamy, light tan head with excellent persistence and moderate lacing; opaque.

Aroma. High hop intensity featuring prominent resinous pine and grapefruit, accompanied by tropical mango and citrus zest. Low malt presence provides faint notes of dark chocolate and toasted crusts; clean fermentation profile with very low fruity esters.

Taste. Initial impression of sharp piney bitterness followed by vibrant hop flavors of lemon peel and stone fruit.
