Thin Man’s Musical Chair is a vibrant American IPA that masterfully bridges contemporary tropical intensity with a classic resinous backbone. The aromatic profile is led by the punchy citrus zest of Citra, layered with the sophisticated white wine and crushed gooseberry notes characteristic of Nelson hops. This 7% ABV ale pours with a clear, golden brilliance and a persistent white head. The palate follows the nose, delivering a saturated blend of mango and grapefruit before transitioning into a resinous, dank finish. A lean, grainy malt presence ensures the hop complexity remains the focus, concluding with a firm bitterness and a clean, dry linger.
Appearance. Medium gold to light amber (6-9 SRM). Clear to brilliant clarity. Medium-sized, white head with excellent persistence and fine lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward aroma featuring prominent grapefruit and lime citrus from Citra, coupled with the distinct crushed grape and tropical fruit of Nelson hops. Subtle resinous and dank undertones are supported by a low, clean, grainy-sweet malt scent. Fermentation is clean with negligible esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of citrus peel and tropical fruit. Hop flavors of mango and passionfruit dominate, followed by a sharp, dank resinous quality in the mid-palate. High bitterness is firm but clean, balancing the low, bready malt backbone. Finishes dry with a lingering hoppy and bitter aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Moderate-high carbonation provides a refreshing bite. Very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present at 7% ABV. No perceived astringency or harshness.
