This West Coast Double IPA presents a zippy, high-definition exploration of Citra hops. The grist, a lean combination of Pilsner malt and 2-Row, provides a crisp, neutral canvas that pushes the hop profile to the forefront. Intense sensory layers of pomelo and zesty lemon heads dominate the experience, supported by a refreshing character reminiscent of lemon-lime soda. Despite its strength, the beer maintains a top-down focus on hop clarity and a dry finish, embodying a modern, bright approach to the style where the citrus-forward Citra lot shines with expansive, vibrant intensity and a clean, bitter snap.
Appearance. Deep gold (7 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a moderate-sized, persistent white head that exhibits excellent retention and fine lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by citrus and tropical fruit. Specific notes of pomelo, lemon zest, and a sweet lime character are prominent. The malt is low and neutral, offering subtle grainy-sweetness from the Pilsner malt. Very clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Leading with a strong, complex hop flavor of lemon candy and lime soda. The malt presence is low and unobtrusive, contributing light cracker and grain notes from the 2-Row. High bitterness is firm and assertive but lacks harshness. The finish is very dry and crisp with a lingering hoppy aftertaste of citrus pith.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, zippy texture. Medium-high carbonation provides a crisp bite. A restrained, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, contributing to the beer’s drying effect.
