The Veil Brewing Co.

This Double IPA from The Veil Brewing Co. delivers an overwhelming sensory experience driven by a massive eight-hop blend. The aroma is dominated by the tropical intensity of Galaxy and El Dorado, alongside the distinct white grape and gooseberry notes of Nelson. Citra and Mosaic provide a foundational citrus and berry depth, while Simcoe adds a touch of resinous pine. On the palate, Enigma and Wakatu introduce nuanced layers of red currant and lime zest. A lean, neutral malt bill supports the aggressive bitterness without adding cloying sweetness. The finish is remarkably dry, ensuring high drinkability despite the complex hop saturation and strength.

Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper (6–10 SRM). Displays a moderate, persistent white head with excellent lacing. Though modern versions often show a slight haze, it maintains good overall clarity.

Aroma. Intense hop aroma featuring a complex bouquet of passion fruit, mango, and lychee. Secondary notes of crushed grapes, bright citrus peel, and a subtle dank pine resin. Clean, neutral graininess in the background with a very low fruity fermentation profile and well-integrated alcohol.

Taste. Explosive hop flavors of grapefruit, pineapple, and stone fruit lead into a firm, clean bitterness. A low, soft, crackery malt support allows the tropical and resinous hop character to dominate. The finish is dry to medium-dry with a long, lingering hoppy, bitter aftertaste that lacks any harshness.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a lively mouth-coating sensation. A gentle, restrained alcohol warmth is present, consistent with its strength, but remains smooth.
