This Double IPA is a high-gravity exploration of modern hop technology, highlighting the specific sensory impact of Phantasm and Nelson Sauvin CGX. The result is an aromatic explosion of passion fruit, crushed gooseberry, and Sauvignon Blanc grape notes driven by concentrated New Zealand hop oils. A clean, neutral malt base allows these intense tropical thiols to shine without distraction. While the 8.4% ABV provides a subtle, integrated warmth, the beer remains remarkably drinkable with a crisp, dry finish. Expect a firm but smooth bitterness that underscores the complex layers of citrus and stone fruit, characteristic of a contemporary, hop-forward masterpiece.
Appearance. Gold to light orange-copper in color (7-9 SRM). Features a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head with good lacing and brilliant clarity.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by Nelson Sauvin character, specifically white grape, gooseberry, and passion fruit. Phantasm additions contribute intense tropical thiols, reminiscent of guava and citrus peel. Malt character is low, clean, and neutral, with a very low, smooth alcohol note.
Taste. Initial impression is an assertive hop-forward punch of tropical and stone fruits. Hop flavor is intense and complex, featuring lime and crushed grapes. Bitterness is moderately high and firm but smooth. Malt is supportive and unobtrusive, showing a light cracker-like quality. The finish is medium-dry and clean with a lingering hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively prickle. A noticeable but restrained and smooth alcohol warmth is present, with no harshness or astringency.
