The Lost Abbey

Unseen Things is a sophisticated Specialty IPA that masterfully bridges the gap between deep, dark aesthetics and vibrant, sun-drenched hop intensity. The sensory experience is defined by a striking contrast, where a lean malt backbone provides subtle nuances of baker's chocolate and toasted crust without the weight of a stout. Assertive tropical hop notes take center stage, delivering punchy layers of overripe mango, passion fruit, and guava that soar above the darker base. The Lost Abbey has crafted a beer with a remarkably dry finish and a firm bitterness, ensuring the resinous fruit character remains bright and refreshing against a smooth, dark silhouette.

Appearance. Deep ebony to dark brown (35-38 SRM) and opaque in the glass. It is topped by a moderate-sized, persistent tan head that leaves fine, consistent lacing.

Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by tropical fruits like pineapple and mango. Beneath the hops lies a moderate malt character of toasted bread and light cocoa, with a clean fermentation profile and no perceptible alcohol or esters.

Taste. Initial tropical hop flavors of guava and resinous pine lead into a firm, medium-high bitterness. The malt profile is restrained and smooth, offering light chocolate and nutty toast without any burnt or ashy astringency. It finishes quite dry and clean with a lingering fruity hop aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-bodied with a smooth, creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate, providing a lively mouthfeel that enhances the dry finish. Alcohol warmth is very light and well-hidden.
