The Kernel Brewery Pale Ale Eclipse offers a sophisticated interpretation of the Australian Sparkling Ale style, showcasing the Eclipse hop variety against a lean, highly attenuated malt backdrop. This ale presents a vibrant sensory profile where distinctive notes of mandarin zest and fresh pine resin from the Eclipse hops take center stage, supported by a subtle ester profile of crisp pear and green apple. True to the brewery’s signature, it is intentionally dry and light-bodied, allowing the herbal and citrus-driven hop character to remain sharp and refreshing. The experience is defined by a lively, spritzy carbonation that emphasizes a firm bitterness and a clean, resinous finish.

Appearance. Medium gold with deep yellow highlights (SRM 5-6). It features a tall, frothy, persistent white head with excellent lacing. Clarity is brilliant when decanted, though it may show a uniform cloudiness if the yeast is roused during the pour, accompanied by noticeable effervescence.

Aroma. Moderate to high intensity with a primary focus on hop character; prominent mandarin, citrus peel, and fresh pine needles. Supporting this are moderate esters of pear and red apple. The malt aroma is clean and functional, offering neutral grainy and lightly bready notes with a very faint, pleasant sulfur hint from the yeast.

Taste. Initial bready and grainy malt sweetness is quickly overtaken by a medium-high bitterness. The flavor profile is dominated by the Eclipse hop, providing layers of sweet mandarin fruit and peppery, resinous pine. Fermentation esters contribute subtle apple notes. It is highly attenuated and exceptionally dry, finishing crisp with a lingering, clean herbal bitterness and no caramel presence.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a high, prickly carbonation that provides a mouth-filling, spritzy carbonic bite. The texture is smooth yet gassy, with a very light alcohol warmth consistent with its strength. The finish is remarkably clean and free of any residual sweetness or astringency.
