This balanced American IPA showcases a vibrant, hop-forward sensory profile driven by Simcoe and Amarillo hops. Pouring a brilliant golden-orange, it delivers an intense bouquet of ruby red grapefruit, sweet tangerine, and fresh pine needles, grounded by a subtle, clean, grainy malt backdrop. The palate is greeted by an assertive, clean bitterness that melds seamlessly with bright citrus and resinous tropical fruit flavors. With a medium-light body and a crisp, dry finish, this IPA highlights the classic, highly-attenuated crispness of The Kernel, leaving a clean, lingering hoppy resonance without any harshness.
Appearance. Deep gold to light amber in color. Boasts a generous, persistent, off-white head with excellent retention and thick, web-like lacing. Appears clear with only a very faint, brilliant haze.
Aroma. High-intensity aroma dominated by bright citrus zest, grapefruit, and ripe orange from the Amarillo, alongside complex resinous pine, damp earth, and passion fruit notes from the Simcoe. Clean, low, grainy-sweet malt provides a supportive background, free from heavy caramel. Fermentation is extremely clean with negligible yeast-derived esters.
Taste. Begins with an immediate, clean, and assertive hop bitterness. Prominent flavors of grapefruit flesh, orange peel, and dank pine resin coat the tongue. A low, supportive, slightly crackery malt character runs underneath to maintain balance. The finish is highly attenuated, crisp, and decidedly dry, leaving a lingering, clean bitterness and refreshing citrus rind character in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a lively effervescence. Alcohol warmth is very light and well-integrated at 6.7% ABV, with no astringency or harshness.
