English Pale Ale 4 º
Call Out is a quintessential Ordinary Bitter that celebrates regional British ingredients with a vibrant citrus twist. Brewed with local barley from the Scottish Borders, it provides a solid foundation of bready and biscuity malt. The addition of First Gold and UK Cascade hops introduces a distinct layer of bright citrus and tangy orange marmalade, providing a refreshing counterpoint to the traditional earthy hop character. This sessionable ale balances a firm hop bitterness with a clean, dry finish. It pours a clear amber with a delicate, lacy head, making it an exceptionally drinkable example of the style.
Appearance. Pours a brilliant pale amber to light copper (9–11 SRM) with excellent clarity. The off-white head is low to moderate in height with fair retention and light lacing.
Aroma. Moderate malt aroma featuring bready and toasty notes from the Scottish Borders barley. Hop character is pronounced for the style, offering floral and earthy notes from First Gold alongside zesty citrus and marmalade scents from the UK Cascade. Low fruity esters are present.
Taste. Initial impression is decidedly bitter but supported by a biscuity malt backbone. Hop flavors of orange marmalade and grapefruit zest are prominent. The fermentation character is clean with subtle apple-like esters. The finish is dry and crisp, leaving a lingering, pleasant earthy bitterness.
Mouthfeel. Light to medium-light body with moderate carbonation. There is no detectable alcohol warmth, consistent with the 4% ABV. The texture is smooth and highly sessionable without any harsh astringency.
