Intense aromas of tropical fruit and resinous spice from US Columbus hops are elegantly tempered by soft vanilla and toasted oak notes. On the palate, the full-bodied malt base provides a rich, sturdy foundation for the prominent hop character, while the time spent in wood has rounded the initially high bitterness into a smooth, lingering finish. Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper (8-12 SRM). The beer shows good clarity with a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head that leaves delicate lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring the characteristic spice, resin, and tropical fruit notes of US Columbus hops. This is layered with distinct secondary aromas of vanilla and light wood-derived spice from oak aging. The malt character is supportive and clean, with a hint of toasted grain.
Taste. Initial impression is a surge of resinous and tropical hop flavors, quickly joined by rich vanilla and subtle oak spice. The malt flavor is medium-full, providing a grainy, bread-like sweetness that balances the high bitterness. Despite the high hop load, the bitterness is notably smooth and lacking in harshness due to the aging process. It finishes medium-dry with a lingering hop and vanilla aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full to full body, noticeably richer than standard examples of the style. Carbonation is moderate. A smooth, creamy texture is present, accompanied by a restrained and well-integrated alcohol warmth.
