This imposing Imperial Stout and Barleywine blend presents an intensely complex sensory profile, forged through nine months of maturation in rum barrels. The liquid pours with a syrupy, jet-black viscosity, releasing a potent bouquet of dark chocolate, molasses, and vanillin. Integration of cocoa nibs enhances the depth of the bittersweet roasted character, while the inclusion of Habanero peppers adds an intriguing, earthy spice note rather than overt heat. On the palate, the experience is luxurious and decadent, featuring layers of dark fruit, espresso, and rum-soaked oak. It concludes with a sophisticated, lingering warmth and a subtle pepper tingle that balances the massive malt backbone.
Appearance. Opaque, jet black (40+ SRM) with a thin, dark tan head that shows low retention. Very high viscosity is evident by the prominent legs forming on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity with rich layers of bittersweet chocolate and roasted cocoa nibs. Strong rum-barrel influence provides notes of molasses, toasted oak, and vanilla. Moderate esters of dried figs and raisins are present, alongside a faint earthy spice from the Habanero and a clean, noticeable alcohol presence.
Taste. Massive initial impact of dark caramel, fudge, and toasted malts. The mid-palate introduces rum-derived wood tannins and spicy alcohol, supported by moderate roasted bitterness.
