The Malt Mill is a monumental Imperial Stout, born from aging the legendary Black Tuesday in Westward Whiskey barrels. This collaboration yields an olfactory feast of dried fig, tart cherry, and rich crème brûlée. On the palate, it unfolds with the decadence of chocolate lava cake and subtle waffle cone sweetness, punctuated by additional layers of dried cherry. The massive alcohol presence is softened by a velvety, viscous texture, while the single malt whiskey influence provides a sophisticated oak and spirit backbone. It is a masterful, slow-sipping expression of roasted depth and barrel-matured complexity.
Appearance. SRM 40; jet black and completely opaque. It pours with a small, dark tan head that dissipates quickly due to the high alcohol content, leaving thick, oily legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity; deep layers of bittersweet chocolate and cocoa nibs meld with prominent whiskey-derived vanilla and caramelized sugar. Distinct notes of dried fig and dark cherry complement a rich, vinous alcohol character.
Taste. The initial impression is intensely rich and sweet, featuring flavors of chocolate lava cake and toasted waffle cone. Mid-palate reveals concentrated dried cherry and a firm roasted malt bitterness. The finish is long and warming, with a lingering whiskey and oak character.
Mouthfeel. Extremely full-bodied and chewy with a luscious, velvety texture. Carbonation is low, and the significant alcohol presence provides a deep, smooth warmth without being harsh or solventy.
