Sundae Sunday is a decadent Imperial Stout that pours with the viscosity of motor oil, showcasing an intricate blend of dessert-inspired elements and barrel character. The sensory profile is headlined by the aromatic punch of Madagascar vanilla and the jammy, slightly tart essence of boysenberries, which cut through the immense malt depth. On the palate, layers of bittersweet chocolate and espresso meet charred oak and caramel from bourbon barrels, while wine barrel aging contributes a subtle vinous complexity and dark fruit tannins. At 17.1% ABV, it delivers an exceptionally warming, luxurious experience with a lingering finish of dark berry preserves and spirituous oak.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40+ SRM). It features a thin, dark tan head with low retention, typical of such high gravity, leaving thick, viscous legs that cling to the glass.
Aroma. High intensity and complex; rich Madagascar vanilla and concentrated boysenberry jam lead the profile. Underlying notes of dark chocolate, toasted oak, and bourbon-soaked caramel are prominent, accompanied by a subtle vinous, dark-grape ester and noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth.
Taste. Intensely flavored and sweet; a massive initial impression of berry coulis and creamy vanilla gives way to deeply roasted malts, cocoa, and espresso. The mid-palate reveals bourbon character—toasted coconut and oak—balanced by a slight fruit acidity and vinous tannins. Bitterness is moderate to high but largely masked by the residual sugar, finishing with a long, warming, and bittersweet berry aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Extremely full-bodied, chewy, and viscous with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low. Significant and smooth alcohol warmth is present without being harsh or solventy.
