This Bourbon barrel-aged Imperial Stout pours a deep, opaque jet-black, releasing an intense bouquet of dark chocolate and rich molasses. On the palate, the experience is decadent and velvety, dominated by bittersweet cocoa and a lingering bourbon warmth. This is a masterful display of barrel-aging, finishing with a harmonious blend of roast and dark fruit sweetness.

Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40+ SRM). It features a thick, deep tan head with moderate to low retention, eventually fading to a creamy ring that leaves thick legs on the glass due to high viscosity.

Aroma. High intensity and complex. Dominant aromas of bittersweet chocolate and heavy molasses are layered with bourbon-derived vanilla and toasted oak. Moderate esters present as dried figs and dark cherries, while a smooth, warming alcohol presence underpins the roasted malt character.

Taste. Intense and multi-layered. Initial flavors of dark chocolate and rich caramel lead into a mid-palate of dried figs, black cherries, and molasses. The bourbon barrel aging contributes strong vanilla and charred oak notes. Bitterness is moderate-high but well-balanced by the massive malt backbone. The finish is long and bittersweet, with a lingering warmth and cocoa-like aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied and chewy with a thick, velvety, and luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present but integrated, avoiding any harsh or solventy character.

The Bruery aus Kalifornien hat sich den traditionellen Bierstilen vor allem um Fasslagerungen gewidmet, der Brauereiname geht dabei auf den Gründerfamilienamen Rue zurück. Ihr So Happens It’s Tuesday ist dabei ihr wohl bekanntestes Stout (und spielt mit seinem Namen übrigens auf den Black Tuesday 1929 an), das ohne Adjuncts (Zusätze in Form von Früchten oder Gewürzen, somit eignet es sich auch für die Lagerung zu Hause perfekt!) auskommt und einerseits durch das Basis-Stout als v.a. auch durch die Lagerung in Bourbonfässern sein Geschmacksprofil annimmt. Dieses beinhaltet dunkle Schokolade, starker Malzkörper und Vanille- sowie Eichenfassaromen – auch in dieser 2021er Vintage-Variante werden diese auf dem starken Alkoholgehalt von 15.3% perfekt transportiert.
